Vikas Bhagat has been sentenced to life in prison in India for the rape and murder of Irish backpacker Danielle McLaughlin. Danielle McLaughlin, from Buncrana in County Donegal, Republic of Ireland, was found dead in a secluded spot in Canacona, Goa, in March 2017. A post-mortem examination revealed she suffered cerebral damage and constriction of the neck. Her mother, Andrea Brannigan, and sister, Joleen McLaughlin Brannigan, expressed that justice has 'finally been achieved' after an eight-year murder trial.
