This request, spearheaded by Elon Musk and supported by US President Donald Trump's administration, aims to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. However, the move has triggered alarm within the government and among privacy experts, who warn of the extraordinary dangers of granting such access to private taxpayer information. As of Sunday evening, the request had not been granted. This event follows previous attempts by Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access data from other government agencies, including the United States — United States Department of the Treasury, which was temporarily blocked by a federal judge, while access to the United States — United States Department of Labor, United States — United States Department of Health and Human Services, and the United States — Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was granted.
