Pakistan Second-Most Terrorism-Affected Country

Pakistan has been ranked as the world's second-most terrorism-affected country in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2025 report, moving up from its previous fourth position. The country experienced a 45% increase in terrorism-related deaths, rising to 1,081 in 2024, and the number of terror attacks more than doubled to 1,099. The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) is identified as the deadliest and fastest-growing terrorist group, responsible for 52% of all terrorism-related deaths. The report links this surge to the TTP's increased operational freedom and access to safe havens in Afghanistan since the Taliban's return to power. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain the most affected provinces. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) was responsible for the deadliest attack of 2024 and has significantly increased its activities, targeting government infrastructure and China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. In response, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched 'Operation Azm-e-Istehkam' and conducted targeted airstrikes in Afghanistan.
