University of Pittsburgh Student Missing in Dominican Republic

Disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old student from the University of Pittsburgh, went missing during a spring break trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on March 6, 2025. She was last seen on a beach between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. with friends and other individuals they met at the resort. Her friends reported her missing when she did not return to her room. The United States — Arlington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office was contacted by her family and is assisting in the search. The Haiti — Haitian National Police and Dominican Republic — La Altagracia Civil Defense are leading an extensive search operation by land, sea, and air, utilizing drones and helicopters. Surveillance footage has been obtained, and a man last seen with Disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki has been interviewed. Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has called for a broader investigation, including possibilities of kidnapping or human trafficking, as authorities have not ruled out foul play. The University of Pittsburgh and the India — Dominican Republic–India relations are also providing support and coordinating with authorities. The United States — United States Department of State has a level two travel advisory for the Dominican Republic due to violent crime concerns.
