The cyberattack on X (social network) and subsequent outages could negatively impact investor confidence in the platform's stability and its owner, Elon Musk. While not directly affecting publicly traded companies like Tesla, Inc., it adds to concerns about Musk's management of his ventures.
X (social network) experienced multiple widespread outages on Monday, March 10, 2025, affecting thousands of users across North America, Europe, and Asia. Elon Musk, the owner of X (social network), claimed the platform was under a 'massive cyberattack' and suggested that the attackers used IP addresses originating from Ukraine. However, cybersecurity experts, including those from Recorded Future and New York University, quickly countered Musk's claims, stating that IP addresses are easily masked and do not reliably indicate the origin of an attack. They also noted that the nature and short duration of the outages made a state-sponsored attack less likely. Downdetector reported peak outages of over 40,000 users. This incident follows a history of technical glitches on X (social network) since Elon Musk's acquisition in 2022.
