Actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, were found dead in their United States — Santa Fe, New Mexico home on February 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that Betsy Arakawa died first, around February 11, from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Gene Hackman is believed to have died approximately a week later, around February 18, from heart disease with Alzheimer's as a contributing factor. One of their dogs, Zinna, was also found dead in a crate. Their other two dogs, Bear and Nikita, survived and helped first responders locate Gene Hackman's body after Betsy Arakawa was found.
