BIS Raids Amazon, Flipkart Warehouses

The India — Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted extensive search and seizure operations at multiple warehouses of leading e-commerce platforms, including Amazon (company) and Walmart — Flipkart, in cities like Lucknow, Gurugram, and Delhi. These operations, which took place in February and March 2025, resulted in the confiscation of thousands of non-certified consumer products such as toys, hand blenders, water bottles, and electric appliances. The investigations traced the source of these non-compliant products back to Techvision International Private Limited, leading to further raids on their facilities and the seizure of approximately 11,000 uncertified items. The India — Bureau of Indian Standards has initiated legal action against Techvision International Private Limited under the BIS Act, 2016, with penalties including significant fines and potential imprisonment. The India — Bureau of Indian Standards has also issued notices to all e-commerce platforms, emphasizing the need for due diligence to ensure only BIS-certified products are sold, aiming to curb the distribution of substandard goods and protect consumers.
