Shashi Tharoor on India's Ukraine Stance

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor publicly admitted that his initial criticism of India's neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine war was incorrect. Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue, Shashi Tharoor stated that India's policy has positioned it as a key player in fostering lasting peace, enabling Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Shashi Tharoor's initial criticism in February 2022 was based on the violation of the United Nations and Ukraine's sovereignty. However, he now recognizes that India's balanced approach has given it diplomatic leverage. Shashi Tharoor also suggested that India might be open to sending peacekeepers if an agreed peace settlement is reached between Russia and Ukraine, especially since Russia has rejected peacekeepers from NATO countries. This acknowledgement underscores India's established commitment to global stability, with a record of over 49 peacekeeping missions.
