Alphabet Inc. has officially launched its new budget-friendly smartphone, the Pixel 9a, in India. This device expands Alphabet Inc.'s Pixel lineup, offering a more affordable option compared to its flagship models and directly competing with Apple Inc.'s iPhone 16e. The Pixel 9a is powered by the Tensor G4 chipset, features a dual-camera setup with AI enhancements, and comes with built-in Google Gemini assistance. It is priced at Rs 49,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 56,999 for the 8GB+256GB model. Alphabet Inc. promises seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates for the device. The smartphone will be available for purchase from April 16, 2025, through major retailers including Walmart — Flipkart, Croma, Vijay Sales, and Reliance Retail — Reliance Digital. Banking partners like HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, and Bajaj Finserv are offering cashback and no-cost EMI options to facilitate purchases. The launch was initially delayed due to a component quality issue affecting a small number of devices.
