Eid al-Fitr 2025 Dates Announced

Eid al-Fitr, a major Islamic festival, marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. Celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, its exact date depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. In India, Eid al-Fitr 2025 is expected to fall on March 30 or March 31, with the Indian central government recognizing March 31 as a gazetted holiday. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are also preparing for the moon sighting. The United States — Supreme Court of the United States and other moon sighting committees will search for the crescent moon on March 29, 2025, in Middle Eastern and Western countries, and on March 30, 2025, in South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. If the moon is sighted on March 30, Eid will be celebrated on March 31; otherwise, it will be on April 1. The United Arab Emirates has already announced public sector holiday dates, potentially extending to April 2. Eid al-Fitr is a time for spiritual reflection, community gatherings, prayers, sharing meals, and exchanging gifts, with traditions like Zakat al-Fitr (charitable contributions) ensuring inclusivity.
