Canada Warns of Election Interference

These allegations come amidst strained relations between Canada and both India and China. Canada previously expelled six Indian diplomats over alleged involvement in a plot against Sikh separatists. Separately, China announced tariffs on Canadian agricultural products in retaliation for Canadian levies on Chinese electric vehicles, and Canada condemned China's execution of four Canadian citizens. While previous interference attempts in 2019 and 2021 did not affect election outcomes, Canada — Canadian Security Intelligence Service warns that such activities can erode public trust in Canada's democratic processes. The new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has called for snap elections.
