Narendra Modi Inaugurates New Pamban Bridge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first vertical lift sea bridge, the new Pamban Bridge, in India — Rameswaram, India — Tamil Nadu, on April 6. This modern engineering marvel, constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam at a cost of over ₹550 crore, replaces a century-old structure and significantly enhances connectivity between India — Rameswaram and mainland India. The bridge features a 72.5-meter vertical lift span, allowing smooth passage for large ships without disrupting train services. In addition to the bridge, Narendra Modi also laid foundation stones and dedicated road and rail projects worth over ₹8,300 crore to the nation, aiming to improve connectivity to pilgrimage and tourist spots, reduce travel time, and boost local economies. The project is a symbol of modern Indian engineering, designed for durability in harsh marine environments and future transportation demands. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Railway Minister, highlighted the bridge's significance as a symbol of progress.
