Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended the issuance of Umrah, business, and family visit visas for citizens of 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Jordan, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Yemen, and Morocco. This measure, effective until mid-June 2025, coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage season. The decision, ordered by Mohammed bin Salman, aims to prevent overcrowding and illegal participation in the Hajj, following a tragedy in 2024 where over 1,000 pilgrims died due to extreme heat and overcrowding. The Saudi Arabia — Ministry of Hajj and Umrah clarified that this is a logistical step, not a diplomatic one, to ensure a safer and better-organized pilgrimage. Individuals found violating the new rules, such as overstaying visas or attempting Hajj without proper authorization, may face a five-year entry ban from Saudi Arabia. Hajj-specific visas, diplomatic visas, and residency permits remain unaffected.
