EPFO Launches Face Authentication for UAN

The India — Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a new facility for Universal Account Number (UAN) allotment and activation, leveraging India — Aadhaar's Face Authentication Technology (FAT) through the UMANG mobile application. This initiative aims to provide a contactless, secure, and fully digital experience for millions of EPF members. The UMANG app now offers three key services: direct UAN allotment and activation for new members, UAN activation for existing members who haven't activated it, and face authentication for already activated UANs to update records. This process ensures 100% India — Aadhaar and user validation, pre-populates data directly from the India — Aadhaar database, and matches mobile numbers with those registered with India — Aadhaar. It also allows employees to generate and activate their UAN independently, download e-UAN cards, and gain immediate access to various EPFO services like passbook viewing, KYC updates, and claim submissions, reducing dependency on employers and physical visits to EPFO offices. The India — Aadhaar API is utilized for identity verification.
