A 19-year-old woman, Ritika Dhere, gave birth to a baby boy on a moving sleeper coach bus in India — Maharashtra's India — Parbhani district. She and a man, Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, then wrapped the newborn in cloth and threw him out of the bus window, leading to the child's death. The incident occurred on the Pathri-Selu Road. An alert citizen noticed the act and informed the police, who intercepted the bus and took Ritika Dhere and Altaf Shaikh into custody. The couple confessed to abandoning the baby, stating they were unable to raise the child. A case has been registered against them at India — Ranjit Nagar Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 related to concealment of birth and secret disposal of a dead body. Ritika Dhere was later taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Both Ritika Dhere and Altaf Shaikh are from Parbhani and had been living in India — Pune.
