This event has no direct impact on financial markets. It is a human interest story about urban exploration and the decline of a former resort town.
Urban explorer Luke Bradburn discovered an abandoned city of hotels in Japan — Kinugawa Onsen, Japan, which has been untouched for over 30 years. The resort town, once famous for its hot springs, declined during Japan's economic downturn in the early 1990s. Strict property laws in Japan prevented the demolition of many hotels after owners died or vanished, leaving the buildings in legal limbo. Luke Bradburn explored several of the approximately 20 decaying hotel buildings, finding some rooms remarkably preserved with arcade machines, taxidermy animals, and drinks still on tables, while other areas were unsafe due to collapse.
