Joseph Czuba Dies in Custody

Murder of Wadea al-Fayoume, a 73-year-old landlord, who was sentenced to 53 years in prison for the murder of 6-year-old Murder of Wadea al-Fayoume and the attempted murder of his mother, Hanan Shaheen, has died in the custody of the United States — Mississippi Department of Corrections. Czuba targeted Murder of Wadea al-Fayoume and Hanan Shaheen in October 2023 due to their Islamic faith and in response to the war between Israel and Hamas. He stabbed Murder of Wadea al-Fayoume 26 times and Hanan Shaheen 12 times. The attack renewed fears of anti-Muslim discrimination, particularly in the Plainfield area, which has a large Palestinian community. The Council on American–Islamic Relations' Chicago office commented on Murder of Wadea al-Fayoume's death, emphasizing that 'the hate is still alive and well'.
