Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Deal, Trump Route

Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of Donald Trump and the United States, signed a historic peace agreement at the White House, aiming to end decades of conflict over the Karabakh region. The deal includes the creation of a major transit corridor, named the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,' which will connect Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory. This route is planned to include rail, oil and gas pipelines, and fiber optic lines, with negotiations for its development expected to begin soon. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan also signed separate agreements with the United States to enhance cooperation in energy, technology, and the economy. This agreement marks a significant geopolitical shift, as it allows the United States to deepen its influence in the South Caucasus region while diminishing Russia's long-standing role as a mediator, especially after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The White House also indicated that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Minsk Group, previously tasked with mediating the conflict, is no longer relevant and will be dissolved.
