New Tatooine-like Planet Discovered

Scientists have potentially discovered a new exoplanet, reminiscent of the fictional Tatooine, orbiting two 'failed stars' (brown dwarfs) approximately 120 light years from Earth. The planet reportedly follows an unusual, perpendicular orbit around the brown dwarfs. This discovery, published in Science Advances, is based on new analysis of the brown dwarfs' changing motion, which suggests the presence of an orbiting body. While over a dozen planets orbiting binary star systems are known, this finding is unique due to its orbit around brown dwarfs. However, the planet has not been directly observed, and further research is needed to confirm its existence, mass, and precise orbit. Simon Albrecht of Aarhus University expressed caution, while Thomas Baycroft of the University of Birmingham emphasized the discovery's importance for understanding diverse planetary systems.
