Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India is undertaking a landmark visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Jeddah in 40 years. During the visit, India and Saudi Arabia are set to sign at least six memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in critical sectors including space, energy, health, science and scientific research, culture, and advanced technology. Narendra Modi and Mohammed bin Salman will also co-chair the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, established in 2019 to strengthen bilateral ties. A key agenda item for discussion is issues related to the Hajj pilgrimage, including India's quota for pilgrims. Despite an increased Hajj quota for 2025, approximately 42,000 Indian pilgrims are unlikely to perform the pilgrimage due to delays by Combined Hajj Group Operators in finalizing contract agreements. The visit aims to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia.
