US ICE Reverses Student Visa Terminations

The United States federal government, through United States — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is reversing its decision to terminate the legal status of international students. This reversal comes after numerous court challenges across the United States and protests, including one at Syracuse University. United States — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement will manually restore the student status for those whose records were recently terminated in the SEVIS database. The agency is also developing a new policy framework for SEVIS record terminations, ensuring that records remain active until this policy is issued. Many terminations were initially linked to criminal records checks via the NCIC database, maintained by the United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation, and often occurred without notification to students or their schools.
