UC Berkeley student paralyzed after fall

Bandana Bhatti, a 21-year-old student at the University of California, Berkeley, was paralyzed from the waist down after falling from an external metal staircase at the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house on April 19. She sustained severe injuries, including a spinal fracture, spinal fluid leakage, a scapular fracture, and a brain hematoma. Bandana Bhatti did not receive medical attention for approximately seven hours after the fall, as friends initially took her back to her apartment before calling 911. Her sister, Sonya Bhatti, created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Bandana Bhatti's extensive medical care and rehabilitation. The University of California, Berkeley and Phi Kappa Tau have both issued statements offering support to Bandana Bhatti and her family, and police are investigating the incident.
