Qatar Gifts Boeing 747-8 to Donald Trump

The Trump administration is reportedly planning to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8, valued at over $400 million, from the Qatari royal family. This aircraft is intended to be outfitted as the new Air Force One and later transferred to Donald Trump's presidential library, allowing him to use it as a private citizen. The proposed gift has sparked ethical and legal concerns from Democrats and good government advocates, who view it as potential foreign influence and a violation of constitutional prohibitions on US officials accepting gifts from foreign governments. While a Qatari spokesperson stated no final decision has been made, legal analyses by the White House counsel's office and the United States Department of Justice, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and David Warrington, have reportedly concluded that accepting the plane would be legal if it is eventually donated to Donald Trump's library. This development comes amidst Donald Trump's frustration with Boeing over delays in delivering new Air Force One jets. L3Harris has been tapped to retrofit the plane.
