Israel Recovers Eli Cohen's Archive

Israel has successfully retrieved the entire Syrian intelligence archive related to its most famous spy, Eli Cohen, 60 years after his public execution in Damascus. The covert operation, conducted by Israel — Mossad, brought back approximately 2,500 items, including documents, recordings, photos, handwritten letters, passports, and personal effects. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented some of these items to Eli Cohen's widow, Nadia Cohen, in Jerusalem. Eli Cohen's espionage in Syria during the 1960s, where he infiltrated the political and military elite, provided crucial intelligence that aided Israel's swift victory in the 1967 Six-Day War, particularly regarding the Golan Heights. Despite this significant recovery, Nadia Cohen's primary wish remains the return of her husband's body, a mission Israel continues to pursue. The retrieval of the archive is seen as a step towards locating his burial place and underscores Israel's commitment to its missing personnel.
