Dominic Garcia, 23, was arrested in United States — Utah and charged with 28 counts, including aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping, after allegedly holding his pregnant girlfriend and her family hostage for six months. Garcia reportedly convinced the family that members of a cartel were after them, using this lie to control their movements, monitor their communications, and force them into extreme physical regimens, including a 'boot camp' and ice baths. He allegedly carried a handgun and threatened the family with violence. The family eventually held Garcia at gunpoint and called the United States — Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake, who took him into custody. Garcia later admitted to police that the cartel story was a lie, which he maintained out of fear that the family would not like him if he stopped. He is currently held without bail at the United States — Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
