John Woeltz, a 37-year-old cryptocurrency investor, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and torturing a 28-year-old Italian national for three weeks in a luxury Manhattan townhouse. Woeltz allegedly held the victim captive, stole his passport, and subjected him to various forms of torture, including pistol-whipping, electric shocks, and threats with a chainsaw and gun, all to extort his Bitcoin password. Beatrice Folchi was also arrested in connection with the case. The victim managed to escape and alert the United States — New York City Police Department, who subsequently found evidence of the torture, including Polaroid photos and firearms, in the townhouse. Woeltz, reportedly worth $100 million, was ordered held without bail and to surrender his passport, as he possesses a private jet and helicopter.
