Man Pinned by Boulder Rescued

Kell Morris, 61, was pinned face-down in an icy creek by a 700-pound boulder for three hours near Godwin Glacier, south of United States — Anchorage, Alaska. His wife, Jo Roop, held his head above water and walked to find a cell signal to call 911, providing precise GPS coordinates. A volunteer from the Bear Creek Fire Department, working with New York Helicopters, diverted a tourist helicopter to the scene, which was otherwise inaccessible. Rescuers from the United States — Seward Fire Department, with assistance from the Bear Creek Fire Department, used airbags and brute force to lift the boulder, freeing Kell Morris. The United States — National Guard (United States) then airlifted him out. Kell Morris survived with only minor injuries, spending two nights in the hospital.
