Delhi Heatwave Red Alert Issued

India — Delhi and several other northern Indian states, including India — Punjab, India, India — Haryana, and India — Rajasthan, are grappling with an intense heatwave, prompting the Malaysia — Malaysian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert. Temperatures have soared past 45 degrees Celsius in many areas, with Ayanagar recording 45.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD has warned residents to take extreme precautions against heat illness and heatstroke, advising them to avoid heat exposure, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities. Senior scientist Naresh Kumar from the IMD stated that severe heat is expected to persist until June 12. However, some relief is anticipated from June 13 onwards, as a western disturbance is likely to bring light rain and thunderstorms, potentially downgrading the alert to orange. The heatwave poses significant health and safety risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
