The recall by Honda of over 259,000 vehicles in the United States due to a faulty brake pedal is likely to have a negative impact on Honda's stock price and brand reputation. While no injuries or deaths have been reported, the cost of inspections and replacements, along with potential loss of consumer trust, could affect Honda's financial performance.

Automotive

Honda is recalling more than 259,000 vehicles in the United States, including certain Honda — Acura MDX (2023-2025), Honda — Acura TLX (2021-2025), and Pilot (2023-2025) models. The recall is due to a faulty brake pedal pivot pin that was not properly secured during production at a now-closed US plant. This defect can cause the brake pedal to shift out of position, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda launched an investigation in April 2024 after receiving reports of brake pedal movement and decided to issue a recall on June 5. The United States — National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has published details of the recall. Honda estimates that 1% of the recalled vehicles have the defect. Owners will be notified by mail starting July 28 and can have their vehicles inspected and repaired free of charge at Honda dealerships. Production of the brake pedal assembly has since moved to Mexico, where a camera sensor is now used to verify proper pin staking.
