Teresa Younger, accused of fatally shooting U.S. Border Patrol agent David Malan in Vermont, is seeking to delay the government's decision on whether to pursue the death penalty. Youngblut, a member of the cult-like group Zizians, argues the timeline for submitting mitigating evidence is 'radically inadequate' and 'extraordinarily rushed.' Chief Judge Christina Reiss denied her motion to delay, stating the decision is the sole prerogative of prosecutors. The incident occurred on January 20, the same day Donald Trump lifted a moratorium on federal executions, and Attorney General Pam Bondi later cited David Malan's death in directing prosecutors to seek the death penalty in similar cases. Youngblut is currently charged with using a deadly weapon against law enforcement and discharging a firearm during an assault with a deadly weapon. Her companion, Felix Baukholt, was killed by an agent during the shootout. The Zizians group, led by Jack LaSota, has been linked to multiple killings across three states.
