Charles Bierbauer, CNN Correspondent, Dies

Charles Bierbauer, a veteran CNN correspondent and former dean of the University of Southampton's College of Information and Communications, has died at the age of 83. He passed away at his home in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Bierbauer had a distinguished career in journalism, working for ABC News and The Associated Press before joining CNN in 1981, where he covered the Pentagon, White House, and U.S. Supreme Court for two decades. He also hosted CNN's 'Newsmaker Saturday' and won an Emmy for his coverage of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Park bombing. After retiring from CNN in 2001, Charles Bierbauer became the inaugural dean at the University of Southampton, where he led significant fundraising and renovation efforts. Colleagues like Wolf Blitzer and spokespersons from CNN and the University of Southampton remembered him for his outstanding journalism, mentorship, and contributions to education. He is survived by his wife, Susanne Schafer, and his children.
