Fatal Shark Attack Off Sydney Beach

A fatal shark attack occurred off Long Reef Beach in University of New South Wales, Australia, on Saturday, resulting in the death of a surfer. The victim, a 57-year-old man, suffered critical injuries and lost several limbs before being pulled from the water by other surfers. This incident prompted the police and Surf Life Saving NSW to close beaches between Manly and Narrabeen for at least 24 hours. Authorities, including the New South Wales — Department of Primary Industries (New South Wales), are investigating to identify the shark species. This is the first fatal shark attack in University of New South Wales since 2022, when Simon Nellist was killed, and it adds to the three other fatal shark attacks in Australia in 2025.
