Albania Debuts AI Minister Diella

Albania has introduced the world's first AI-generated government 'minister', named Diella, which means 'sun' in Albanian. Prime Minister Edi Rama presented Diella to parliament as a symbol of his government's commitment to transparency and innovation, aiming to combat corruption in public spending. Diella, depicted as a woman in traditional Albanian dress, delivered a three-minute address emphasizing duties, accountability, and non-discriminatory service. The bot was created in cooperation with Microsoft and has been active on the e-Albania public service platform, assisting users with digital inquiries. This initiative is part of Albania's broader plan to showcase technological advancements as it works towards European Union membership by 2030. However, opposition lawmakers, including the Albania — Democratic Party of Albania, were highly critical, arguing the move was unconstitutional and could be a way for the government to hide graft. They boycotted a vote on the Cabinet's program, which still passed.
