US Navy Destroys Drug Speedboat

The Dominican Republic and the United States conducted a joint anti-narcotics operation in the Caribbean. The United States Navy destroyed a speedboat, allegedly carrying 1,000 kilograms of Cocaine, about 80 nautical miles south of Isla Beata. The Dominican Republic's National Directorate for Drug Control subsequently confiscated 377 packages of Cocaine from the vessel. Human rights groups have criticized these strikes as extrajudicial killings, leading two Democratic senators to introduce a resolution in the United States to block further strikes. The Donald Trump administration claims some drug boats originated from Venezuela, whose President Nicolás Maduro denies drug trafficking charges and views the US naval presence as an attack.
