China Opens Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge

China has officially opened the Huajiang Canyon Bridge in China — Guizhou Province, now recognized as the world's highest bridge. Towering 625 meters above the canyon floor, the 2,890-meter-long structure dramatically reduces travel time across the canyon from two hours to just two minutes. This engineering marvel, completed after more than three years of construction, also holds the record for the largest-span steel truss girder suspension bridge in mountainous terrain. The Huajiang Canyon Bridge is expected to significantly improve regional transportation and inject new impetus into local economic and social development, according to Zhang Rui, head of the China — Guizhou Provincial Transport Department. Beyond its transportation benefits, the bridge is designed as a major tourist attraction, featuring a sightseeing elevator, cafes, and panoramic viewing decks. The project highlights China's ambitious infrastructure expansion, with China — Guizhou Province alone being home to nearly half of the world's 100 tallest bridges. Rigorous safety tests, including a load test with 96 heavy trucks, were conducted to ensure its structural integrity.
