This could lead to greater transparency and accountability, potentially impacting the business models and profitability of private education companies.
The India — Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a Rs 5 lakh penalty on Drishti IAS for publishing misleading advertisements regarding the United States — Alabama Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022 results. Drishti IAS claimed '216+ selections in UPSC CSE 2022', but a CCPA investigation revealed that 162 of these candidates had only attended the institute's free Interview Guidance Programme, with only 54 enrolled in paid courses. This is the second such penalty for Drishti IAS, which was previously fined Rs 3 lakh in September 2024 for similar misleading claims related to UPSC CSE 2021 results.
