Indian Tourists Rob Sex Workers in Singapore

Arokkiyasami Daison and Rajendran Mayilarasan, two men from India, were sentenced in Singapore to five years and one month in prison and 12 strokes of the cane each. They pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt while robbing two sex workers in separate hotel rooms. The men arrived in Singapore for a vacation and, needing money, decided to rob the women after being approached by an unknown man offering contact information for sexual services. They tied, slapped, and stole from the first victim, taking SGD 2,000, jewelry, a passport, and bank cards. Later, they robbed a second victim of SGD 800, two mobile phones, and a passport, threatening her not to leave. The crimes came to light after the second victim reported the incident to another person, leading to police intervention. During mitigation, both men cited financial difficulties and family struggles in India as reasons for their actions.
