The event is likely to negatively impact Ola Electric's reputation and could affect its valuation and future IPO plans, especially given the allegations of workplace harassment and financial misconduct. Investors may view this as a significant governance risk, potentially leading to a decrease in investor confidence and a re-evaluation of its market prospects.
K. Aravind, a 38-year-old engineer at Ola Electric, died by suicide on September 28, leaving a 28-page note accusing Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, senior officer Subrat Kumar Das, and the company of mental harassment and financial exploitation, including withholding salary and benefits. Following a complaint by K. Aravind's brother, Ashwin Kannan, the Bengaluru police registered an FIR against Bhavish Aggarwal, Subrat Kumar Das, and Ola Electric for abetment to suicide. Ola Electric has denied the allegations, stating K. Aravind never raised complaints during his tenure and that his role did not involve direct interaction with top management. The company has challenged the FIR before the India — Karnataka High Court and obtained protective orders. Ola Electric also stated that a 17.46 lakh rupees transfer to K. Aravind's account after his death was a full and final settlement. This incident follows SoftBank Group trimming its stake in Ola Electric.
