The IPO of Physics Wallah is a significant event for the Indian edtech sector, testing its market credibility after struggles faced by rivals like Byju s. The modest grey market premium indicates cautious investor optimism, with brokerages offering mixed views on its long-term value and valuation compared to other digital-first players.

Education Technology Financial Services

Physics Wallah, an Indian education technology platform, launched its initial public offering (IPO) with a price band of Rs 103-109 per share, aiming for a valuation of Rs 31,500 crore. The IPO, open from November 11 to 13, includes a fresh issue of Rs 3,100 crore and an offer for sale of Rs 380 crore by co-founders Physics Wallah and Physics Wallah. Funds from the fresh issue will be used for setting up new offline and hybrid centers, lease payments, investments in subsidiaries like Xylem Learning and Utkarsh Classes & Edutech, and general corporate purposes. Physics Wallah also raised Rs 1,563 crore from anchor investors including ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak, Nippon Life, Franklin Templeton, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Bank, and Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC. PKS Investments also invested Rs 136 crore in a pre-IPO round. The company reported a significant reduction in losses to Rs 243 crore in FY25 from Rs 1,131 crore in FY24, with revenue increasing to Rs 2,886 crore. The IPO is seen as a crucial test for the Indian edtech sector, which has faced challenges with other major players like Unacademy, Vedantu, and Byju s.
