CBI Investigates Aqil Akhter Murder

The United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR against former India — Punjab, India Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa, his wife Razia Sultan, and others, including Aqil Akhter's wife and sister, in connection with the alleged murder of their son, Aqil Akhter. Aqil Akhter, 35, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in India — Panchkula, India — Haryana, on October 16. The FIR includes charges of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Prior to his death, Aqil Akhter had posted a video on social media on August 27, alleging illicit relations between his wife and his father, Mohammad Mustafa, and claiming a conspiracy by his family to kill him or frame him. The case was initially investigated by the India — Panchkula Police but was later transferred to the United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation by the India — Haryana government for a more independent probe. Mohammad Mustafa has denied the allegations, stating his son was a drug addict and suffered from mental illness.
