This push for new trade pacts comes amidst global trade disruptions, such as the 50% import duty imposed by the Donald Trump administration on Indian goods. India has already concluded agreements with the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Mauritius, the United Kingdom, and the European Free Trade Association, and is reviewing existing pacts with ASEAN and South Korea. Negotiations are also underway or set to begin with Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, New Zealand, Eurasian Economic Union, Israel, Canada, Southern African Customs Union, and Mercosur, aiming to enhance economic ties and increase bilateral trade, such as with Canada to USD 50 billion by 2030.
