The India — Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has commenced construction of the 13.9-km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension, a six-lane high-speed corridor designed to drastically reduce travel time between South India — Mumbai and India — Thane to 25–30 minutes. This project aims to alleviate congestion on the India — Eastern Express Highway and improve overall connectivity within the India — Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The freeway will run from Anand Nagar in India — Thane to Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar, with key interchanges at Mulund, Airoli, JVLR, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mankhurd, and Ghatkopar, and will connect to the Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway. The India — Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has also implemented environmental measures, including realigning a section to save 127 Pink Trumpet trees and committing to plant 4,175 new saplings. The project incorporates innovative engineering features such as a single-pile, single-pier system, 2.5-meter diameter monopiles, and 40-meter spans. Preliminary surveys and geotechnical investigations are largely complete, with piling and pier casting currently underway, signaling a major infrastructure upgrade for India.
