IITs Ban 20+ Companies

Over 20 companies have been banned from participating in campus placements at major Indian Institutes of Technology for the current academic year. This unanimous decision by the Indian Institutes of Technology stems from these companies rescinding job offers to students, some as late as June or July, just days before their scheduled joining dates. These late withdrawals jeopardized students' career prospects and mental well-being, as many Indian Institutes of Technology policies prevent students with existing offers from attending further interviews. The banned companies, some operating in data analytics and software sectors, had a history of such revocations or reduced salary packages. While barred from campus placements, these firms can still recruit off-campus. In response to a slow job market, Indian Institutes of Technology are also increasing their focus on start-ups promoted by the Centre under the Viksit Bharat program.
