The Nigeria — National Universities Commission (Nigeria — National Universities Commission) has received €3 million as the first tranche of a $40 million loan from the France — French Development Agency (France — French Development Agency). This funding is designated to support Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) projects in 10 selected universities across Nigeria. Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of Nigeria — National Universities Commission, announced this during the inaugural meeting of the 13th Nigeria — National Universities Commission Board in Abuja. The initiative aims to strengthen research, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and skills development within Nigerian universities. Oluremi Aina, Chairman of the 13th Nigeria — National Universities Commission Board, outlined five strategic pillars for the board's work, including performance evaluation, improved university rankings, digital literacy, enhanced research output, and institutional reforms. The loan is expected to significantly boost the digital capabilities of institutions like University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, University of Nigeria, University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology, Minna, University of Maiduguri, AURO University, Modibbo Adama University, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and University of Jos.
