Nigeria NSA Appointment Debate

Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Nigeria called for the removal of Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser, arguing that a retired military officer should hold the position. This suggestion was strongly rejected by two non-government organizations, Oodua Peoples Congress and Niger Delta Stakeholders Forum. Both groups defended Nuhu Ribadu's appointment by President Bola Tinubu, citing his competence, integrity, and experience in intelligence, anti-corruption, and inter-agency coordination, arguing that modern security challenges require more than just military experience. They also pointed out that successful National Security Advisers in other advanced democracies are often civilians.
