India Waqf Property Registration Deadline

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced that the Centre will not impose penalties or take strict action for three months against 'mutawallis' (Waqf property caretakers) who register their properties on the UMEED portal after the December 5 deadline. This decision comes after the India — Supreme Court of India refused to extend the six-month deadline for registration, which was mandated by the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. Rijiju emphasized that while the deadline cannot be legally extended, the India — Ministry of Minority Affairs is providing a humanitarian measure. He urged 'mutawallis' who are unable to complete registration to approach their respective India — Waqf Tribunals, which have the authority to grant extensions. Over 1.5 lakh Waqf properties have been registered on the UMEED portal, which was launched on June 6 to create a digital inventory of all Waqf properties across India.
