The United Kingdom government has imposed sanctions on British Sikh businessman Gurpreet Singh Rehal and the organization Babbar Akali Lehar, marking the first use of its Domestic Counter-Terrorism Regime. Gurpreet Singh Rehal, linked with the Punjab Warriors sports investment firm, faces an asset freeze and director disqualification due to his suspected involvement in funding the pro-Khalistan militant group Babbar Khalsa. United Kingdom — HM Treasury assesses Gurpreet Singh Rehal to be involved in promoting, encouraging, recruiting for, and providing financial services to Babbar Khalsa and Babbar Akali Lehar, including purchasing weapons. Babbar Akali Lehar is also sanctioned for its association with Babbar Khalsa's terrorist activities. The sanctions extend to organizations owned by Gurpreet Singh Rehal, namely Saving Punjab, Whitehawk Consultations Ltd, and Loha Designs. Following the announcement, Punjab Warriors and Morecambe F.C. issued a joint statement confirming that Gurpreet Singh Rehal's consultancy role had been terminated and he is no longer affiliated with either organization.
