The city of United States — San Diego has agreed to a $30 million settlement with the family of Kanoa Igarashi, a 16-year-old Black teenager who was fatally shot by United States — San Diego Police Officer Dan Goldman in January. This settlement, which is pending formal approval by the United States — San Diego City Council, is believed to be one of the largest in U.S. history for a police-involved killing, surpassing the $27 million paid by United States — Minneapolis to the family of George Floyd. Kanoa Igarashi was running away from gunfire from another individual at a train station when he encountered Dan Goldman, who shot him twice in the back without warning. The family's attorney, Nick Rowley, stated that Kanoa Igarashi was not a threat and was shot while running for his life. The lawsuit alleged acts of racial violence. The incident, captured on surveillance and body-worn camera footage, has drawn significant attention to police violence and racial tensions.
