A paramilitary drone attack on the army-held town of Kalogi in Sudan's South Kordofan state on Thursday hit a kindergarten and a hospital, killing dozens of civilians, including children. Essam al-Din al-Sayed, head of the Kalogi administrative unit, blamed the assault on the Rapid Support Forces and their ally, the South Sudan — Sudan People s Liberation Movement faction. This incident is part of a larger conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces that began in April 2023, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and nearly 12 million displaced people. The UNICEF reported over 10 children killed, while the army-aligned foreign ministry put the overall death toll at 79, including 43 children. The African Union and UN Human Rights commissioner Volker Türk condemned the escalating atrocities. The Rapid Support Forces' offensive aims to break the Sudanese Armed Forces' final defensive arc around central Sudan. The World Food Programme also reported an attack on one of its aid trucks in North Darfur. The United Arab Emirates has been accused of supplying the Rapid Support Forces, which it denies.
