The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has successfully restored an additional 450MW of generation capacity to the national grid from the Geregu NIPP plant, following a four-week extended minor inspection undertaken by Siemens Energy. This restoration is part of a broader effort by Niger Delta Power Holding Company to revive dormant power assets, including six previously idle gas turbines that collectively add 875MW to its available generation capacity. Additionally, Niger Delta Power Holding Company has commenced restoration works on the 225MW Gbarain NIPP plant, which has been out of service since 2020, aiming to commercialize its output for industrial clusters in the Niger Delta region. Despite sector-wide challenges, Niger Delta Power Holding Company has achieved several operational and financial milestones, such as recovering abandoned turbine parts, initiating new industrial cluster projects, completing transmission and distribution projects, recovering legacy debts, and securing insurance claims. The company also resolved commercial disputes with Accugas and is engaging with Nigeria — Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on investments in Nigeria — Transmission Company of Nigeria's projects. Furthermore, Niger Delta Power Holding Company partnered with Nigeria — Abia State to construct a new injection substation in Umuahia, with Governor Alex Otti performing the groundbreaking.
